If you're worried that dieting will make you feel too hungry or too tired, you may want to check out adding chia seeds for a more successful weight loss program.
An article in Woman's World Magazine on February 11, 2013 reports on people using this tiny seed with Dr. Bob Arnot's "The Aztec Diet" and getting results "better than lap-band surgery."
Dr. Arnot reports people losing 1/2 to 1 pound daily on the first phase of his diet called the Chia Challenge.
This phase uses a low calorie shake for 3 meals daily.
Some people continued the first phase for 30 days losing 30 pounds, with recommended medical supervision.
Woman's World reports readers who lost up to 2 pounds a day and up to 12 pounds in the first week.
Lap-band surgery is based on the concept of reducing the size of the stomach.
A smaller stomach gives a "feeling of fullness" while eating so you can help avoid excessive hunger pangs.
Patients are still required to follow a calorie-controlled balanced diet both before and after surgery.
Chia seeds can also give you that feeling of fullness because they have a wonderful property of naturally producing a thick gel made of soluble fiber that swells approximately 10 times its weight when combined with water.
This fiber-packed gel is an easy low-calorie way to fill your stomach and reduce those hunger pangs.
This diet promotes a healthy life style based on high quality nutrition and exercise.
There are three phases: a jump start phase using shakes, a weight loss phase with two shakes and a small meal, and a life style phase for maintenance.
The jump start and weight loss phases are based on calorie restriction, with the chia seeds helping to reduce hunger pangs and fatigue.
As with all lifestyle improvements, people on medication must be monitored by their physicians since health improvements may rapidly change appropriate drug dosage levels.

What about using these seeds with other weight loss diets?Chia seeds could be added to diets based on calorie reduction such as: medically based meal replacement shakes, Weight Watchers, Biggest Loser, etc. Since the seeds contain all macronutrients including protein, carbohydrates, and healthy oils, they may not work well with strict zero-carbohydrate diets. If you are using a weight loss program that does not control calories, you may not lose extra weight by adding these seeds. There are no studies that show these seeds will decrease weight loss automatically. Their primary benefits, so far, are from reducing hunger pangs and fatigue.
